What you hopefully will soon have in your hands is a collection of short stories, and every story is true. Sure, in the course of writing, I changed the names, removed (some of) the placenames, translated the dialogue into English and, inevitably, omitted a lot. These are short stories, you understand, you’ve got to omit things. I may have forgotten a lot. Almost by definition, I omitted everything that I have forgotten. But I didn’t invent anything. OK, maybe a little bit. No more than 5%. Just like you can’t obtain 100% ethanol by distillation, you cannot have 100% truth. There must be a law of nature to that effect. Then I can say, this is a work of 5% fiction, the rest is truth.

One day in March 2020, I issued a one-drawing-per-day challenge to myself, while waiting for normality to return, expecting to be bored out of my wits otherwise. This book is the result of that challenge. The cat made his first public appearance on the 9th of October, 2017 on my blog, My leçons de French, and stayed. Apart from his internet presence, he has starred in a book called Some Peculiarities of Russian (see below) — and now this one.

Originally written as a series of posts to clarify some of our students’ doubts or to address particular fine points of Russian that are rarely, if ever, dealt with in textbooks; now a stand-alone illustrated book to read, re-read and colour, if you must.
